Executive Functioning Skills

Organization of Materials

Help students develop a comprehensive systematic approach to organize all school related materials across all subjects including backpacks, binders, folders and notebooks.  Students will learn to locate and utilize all necessary materials to keep track of, complete, and turn in assignments in a timely manner.

Time Management

Help students develop an understanding of time management and the skills necessary to visually organize their days and weeks based on assignments, extracurricular activities as well as “down time.” Students learn how to take ownership over their schedules and develop a daily roadmap of each 24-hour day.

Active Writing

Teach students writing structures and how to navigate the components and processes associated with writing various types of texts, including expository and narrative essays.  This includes the development of necessary skills to execute various stages of writing from planning to editing.

Note Taking

Teach students how to formulate a written record that facilitates understanding and retention of material by teaching them to condense, rephrase and question what is being taught.

Metacognitive Skills

The process of teaching students to be self reflective about their work so that they understand and are able to implement steps to learn effectively, think critically and complete tasks.

Active Listening

Teach students methods to develop and focus their listening skills during class time in order to maximize the absorption of information being taught.

Test Taking Strategies

Teach students specific strategies to master various testing formats including true/false, multiple choice, short answer and essay, as well as strategies for self-pacing and review.

Study Strategy

Students learn to utilize the information that they have gathered in their notes to help them develop various strategies for consolidation, recall and review.

Active Reading

Teach students a formula for reading both expository and narrative texts enabling them to think critically about the material and recognize how what they already know changes or enhances what they are reading.
